McDonald's was right upstairs. So we stay from Thursday to sunday, took a break went upstairs and got McDonald's. Went home and went to school on Monday.
Let's talk about sleeping under the stage or drying your clothes in front of the speakers because you were sweating so much from dancing!! Dat bass was incredible! Walls sweating!!
I'm 60 years old now! When I was going to the music box I was still in high school! My music box membership number was 0052! I lost it years ago. I still wish that I had this thing! It would go into a Museum!
Does anyone remember club LaRay? I think it's a Walmart now.
Yes sir, my old stomping ground. Terry is keeping it 100!!! Great video.
I remember going to a club in Chicago in 1984. Everyone wore leather clothing, spiked belts, and mohawk hairstyles. I was there in blue jeans, hiking boots, and short hair which was common in my high school in Pennsylvania. I was an 18-year-old sailor who had never seen this before.
House music brings souls together
This is a very good piece of work crafted around the "House Culture," which includes various styles of music leading into the "House Genre" of music created in the early 80's in Chicago. Great work, guys!
Thank you very much!
This could go on forever and I'd still be keen to watch and listen. Takes me back, thanks guys 💗
Best CluB Big Chicago Big Forts 39 Cottage Road Real facts 💯 Truth
Most of these venues were about 5 years before my time (around this era, me and my mates would hang out around Cashel St - Echo records, Java, Galaxy, Cheapskates). Venues of my misspent youth - Base, The Civic, Jet Set Lounge, Coyotes, McKenzies Hotel, Nancies, The Foundry, Rockpool, Corner Pocket, but none bigger than The Dux.
I was at the NY vs Chicago battle at the Riv. Farley went against Ice T’s DJ Afika Islam.
Best house music interview I’ve seen.
Bones & Charlie C. ruled the Clubs. Miss those days.
Shout out hot jams record store archer and Pulaski across from curie.
DJ Ron Hardy 🔥🔥🔥
We DONT eat deep dish my brother - love a Chicagoan
I used to be a male dancer back in the day and danced at the AKA ladies night , taste entertainment, the riviera and many others I used to dance all over America and did my shows to a combo of prince and Chicago house ! So I get credit for exposing the women of rural America to Chicago house music lol
Shout out to DJ Jeff Davis at the Riviera
The big homie Kool Rock Steady (r.i.p.) shot a video at the Riviera. Fun Times!
Excellent video! My only beef would be the very beginning….the party at the Belmont Rocks where Frankie Played was, I’m pretty sure was the yearly after party of the Pride parade. Why not just say it was a 99% black/latin Gay function?? According to Terry he was just 11 or 12….maybe he didn’t recognize what was going on around him🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️, at that time Rainbow flags weren’t prevalent and there was a heavy Black Lesbian contingent. Also….I honestly could be mistaken….he said it was August and Pride is always in June. For me Frankie playing@Belmont Rocks was a yearly legendary pilgrimage after the Pride parade
I AM HOUSE Househead for life C/O AD7 Chicago low-end Southside PHS " Wildcats "
There must've been a 'new' Warehouse opened in the early 90s. I remember going there in the 90s.
This is amazing!
Rivers Edge, Sarah J's, strictly business, illusion, Sandpiper lounge, Mr. G's, Charlie Club, Cotton Club, Tiki Hut, and many more! Those were the days.
There was a record store right next to the warehouse and people go in there and say that they wanted to buy music like they play at the warehouse and that got shortened to house. And that’s how the name house music came about. Also, I was at disco demolition at Comiskey Park and I promise you it had absolutely nothing to do with race. The DJ (Steve Dahl) that promoted it was fired from a station when they switched from rock to disco. So he was bitter and blamed his firing on disco. They also made fun of the Bee Gees of Rod Stewart constantly.
Long live The Riv❤🎉 DJ Cowboy was there when we went in the early 90s
It wasn't just the Nightclubs but the High Schools as well. One word. Mendel
I had the pleasure of hearing Terry ,LIVE, once at a club in NYC (Marshall Jefferson was there but not performing, they just wanted acknowledge him) , and after Terry's set, the MC said : YO!!! WE'RE KEEPING HIM, SORRY CHICAGO BUT WE ARE KEEPING HIM!!! 😂😂😂 everyone just fell out laughing 🤣🤣🤣, i was instantly a fan, before that night i don't remember hearing anything about him.
It was the best of times in the early nineties medusa’s wharehouse it was great also b96 we would listen to that all night sometimes those were the days💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🔥🔥🔥
Import records also put those records under the house , short for warehouse section, ask Chip E
When we went to warehouse, we called it going to the house for short or the we house
People really did not go to house parties!!! So how could it be from a house party, if you went to a house party, they would be playing funk and r b records of that day, not those records that was being played at warehouse!!
Sorry to say, BUT, PARADISE GARAGE puts that place to shame in every aspect
Awesome to see. Hey 48 ❤
My ppl still talk about Gil's on 47th 😂
Vinnie Divine from wnur and Tony Washington from Woui use to jam
The Palladium was first a concert venue and not a night club. Picture a large old school movie theater. Saw The Police at The Palladium first row during their Regatta De Blanc tour. Wasn't sold out. The following year they really hit it big. Saw Todd Rundgren, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Patti Smith their also and many others. This Jeff guy is a bit of a poser. I doubt he went to Studio 54. I'm 63 and was to young to go but one of my sisters who is 72 went during it's heyday. She was dating a Columbian? Get the picture? Went to Max's Kansas City before it closed and turned into a Korean deli. That place was derelict. I was alo a regular at The Ritz nightlub/concert venue. Saw many New Wave bands there. The Fixx, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Thomas Dolby, etc. NYC was fun back in the late 70's early 80's. No rules and lack of police allowed you to do almost anything short of serious crimes. I was also a bike messenger from 79'-82 across the street from another concert venue called The Savoy. 44th street between 6th ave and 7th ave/Bway.
This was a great documentary! I lived through this era. The playground, the warehouse, Dingbats (early 80s), the shelter (90s), Red dog (90s), etc...It would've been awesome to see photos from that time.
The peroxide maori blonde (slapper) single mum & she was a disgrace. Robbie used her, she was easy and he was a messed up drug addict back then. She wanted attention and fame so sold her cheap trashy story to the mags. A wannabe nobody. Tacky no class! She was nothing to him he but an easy lay. She wasn't even beautiful. beautiful
Ron was just special
Something Special Indeed!
Gills is legendary
Hyde park 1990
Yes, i remember going to the Riviera every Thursday night in the 90's. If you know you know. Good times!!!
Damn Terry! When you were at AKA’s you were a few blocks from COD’s also. I guess things get left out in video productions.
@terryhunter This is an awesome video of how the word House Music started with Ron and how all of the music artists brought their tracks to Ron. Without Ron testing those tracks on us house music in Chicago would not be a name. Terry, one thing though. The Belmont Rock party was in 84. Dave which Frankie used as his sound guy set up the rock party with me, my buddy Mark, and a guy named Robert. That day was amazing and off the chain. We screamed and danced our asses off. Frankie beat that Beach up! We were dirty from Jackin in the dirt by the tree. It was good seeing you guys fall through Ron’s birthday celebration party 2.5 months ago. If you paid attention or even saw me I was the one with the cane standing behind you with Hope.🙂
I remember one in Greektown. Mid late 90s
You should have me walk you around Chicago for the ghetto house and juke history and locations
@@djclent1 thank you can comeback. DM me please
@@shae_sterling ok

What about Red Dog? Medusa's? Clubhouse (?)? Berlin? I used to drive from Lansing, Mi to go to Chicago House clubs....
